Strategic Plan 2019-2023
Mission Statement: The Greenwood Public library strives to be a community resource centre, supporting life-long learning by providing materials, services, and programs to help fulfill the educational, informational, recreational, social, and cultural needs of the community in a welcoming and user-friendly environment.
Vision: To become a community hub for culture, learning, and social connection.
- Community Services: to engage and support community members.
- Community Connections: to develop strong relationships with other community organizations, local government, and the local business community.
- Sustainability: to advocate for more secure core (operational) funding.
- Facility: to make the existing facility more accessible and functional.
Goal 1. Community Services: to engage and support community member
1.1 Maintain existing programs and establish new programs to increase the library’s role in the community as a place for information- and skill-sharing.
1.2 Conduct survey to identify community needs and preferences.
1.3 Explore ways to engage teens and young adults.
1.4 Increase community use of the library.
Goal 2. Community Connections: to develop strong relationships with other community organizations, local government, and the local business community.
2.1 Increase outreach to local schools; collaborate with schools to identify kids needs and desires for library services, materials, and programs. Encourage class visits to the library.
2.2 Promote the library and its role in the community to local governments.
2.3 Investigate ways the library can support local businesses.
Goal 3. Sustainability: to advocate for more secure core (operational) funding.
3.1 Advocate for the library to local governments to change funding formulae from grant to percentage of tax base.
3.2 Identify potential new funding sources.
3.3 Pursue new fund-raising ideas.
3.4 Investigate establishing a Friends of the Library group to take over fund- raising.
Goal 4. Facility: to make the existing facility more accessible and functional.
4.1 Upgrade entrance and washroom to improve accessibility.
4.2 Reconfigure interior of facility to create better spaces for meetings, program delivery, staff and volunteer work, and storage.
4.3 Explore collaboration with the Legion to share existing amenities.
4.4 Improve presentation of the collection to encourage more circulation.
